Research, Engagement, Faculty Support

The Research, Engagement, and Faculty Support (REFS) Department of Xavier University of Louisiana Library's mission is to provide comprehensive services that support the research needs, scholarly engagement, and professional development of faculty, staff, and students. This includes offering assistance with research resources, tools and strategies for research, fostering collaboration within academic communities, and promoting faculty engagement with library resources to enhance teaching, learning, and research.

This mission is met through:

  • Embedded librarian presence in Brightspace courses
  • In-depth research consultations for students, faculty, and staff
  • Customized workshops on topics related to research practice
  • Consultations on open education and open access resources

XULA University Library and the English Department Present:

The Centennial Poetry Program featuring Scott Woods

Scott Woods is an award-winning writer and event organizer in Columbus, Ohio, and founder of Streetlight Guild, a performing arts non-profit. Woods is the author of four books, most recently the poetry collection, “Black Night is Falling”. He is the 2022 winner of the Press Club of Cleveland’s Ohio Excellence in Journalism award for Best in Ohio Essay Writing, and in 2023 was awarded “Best Columnist in Ohio” by the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists. He was the president of Poetry Slam, Inc. for many years, as well as a competing poet. He was the co-founder of the Writers’ Block Poetry Night, and in 2006 became the first poet to ever complete a 24-hour solo poetry reading…a feat he bested seven more times without repeating a single poem.
