Borrowing Books & Media

To check out books, CDs, DVDs, and other items please use the catalog to find the item's Library of Congress call number. Items with call numbers starting with A-C, our leisure reading collection, the writer's collection, and our faculty collection are located on the second floor. Items with call numbers D-Z are located in the third floor stacks. Head to the second floor administration desk to check out your items with a Xavier ID; self check out stations coming Spring 2024!

Physical Items Borrowing Policies

Borrowing

  • Bring books, CDs, and DVDs from the general collection to the 2nd floor service desk in the administration office
  • Item Holds and Course Reserves are available at the 2nd floor service desk in the administration office
  • Print Journals and Medium-Rare books are not able to be checked out, but can be scanned or read in library
  • Self check stations coming Spring 2024!

Eligible Borrowers

  • Xavier faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students can borrow from the library with their Xavier ID
  • LOUIS reciprocal borrowers can use their LOUIS card to check out items from the general collection
  • Members of the public are welcome to read and scan material, but cannot check out any materials

Loan Periods

  • Graduate and undergraduate Xavierites may borrow books, DVDs, and CDs for 21 days; 10 items maximum
  • Faculty and staff of Xavier may borrow books, DVDs, and CDs until the end of the current semester; 10 items maximum
  • LOUIS members may borrow books, CDs, and DVDs for 14 days; 3 items maximum

Renewals

General collection books, DVDs, and CDs may be renewed up to 4 times. If an item is requested by another user, the item cannot be renewed.
