Instruction Requests

Xavier University Librarians will partner with you to design specialized instruction sessions and materials that support the assignments and coursework for your students. Librarians can be involved in supporting your students in a variety of formats and modalities:

Synchronous

Traditional library instruction takes place during your scheduled class time. This can be done in person, using Zoom, or a combination.

Remote Synchronous

A librarian can host a zoom session for your students who each join the Zoom session from their own devices.

Asynchronous

A librarian can provide videos, and tutorials, and recommend research strategies and databases for your students. This information can be collected in a class guide or hosted within your course in Brightspace. You can also add a librarian to your course in Brightspace to help students in discussion boards.

The ACRL Framework for Information Literacy defines the knowledge practices and dispositions of learners developing skills in six key areas:

Authority Is Constructed and Contextual
The concept of authoritative information is situational and should be questioned.
Information Creation as a Process
Information creation and distribution are equally important in evaluating the usefulness of the information.
Information Has Value
Social, legal, and financial factors impact the production and sharing of information.
Research as Inquiry
Knowledge production requires continuous questioning and synthesis of ideas.
Scholarship as Conversation
Learners are entering into scholarly discourse, and recognize the importance of contributions from others as well as themselves.
Searching as Strategic Exploration
Curiosity, flexibility, and persistence is shown in the pursuit of knowledge using all resources at their disposal.
