Library Archives & Special Collections staff have been awarded several professional development opportunities in recent months. Jane Fiegel received notification of the Digital Preservation Outreach & Education Network (DPOE-N) microgrant award in February. Vinny Barraza was accepted into Harvard University’s summer Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians and then awarded a scholarship to attend the annual ACRL Rare Books & Manuscripts Section Virtual Conference. Last week, the Xavier University of Louisiana Library announced Library Archives Student Assistant Jasmine Malone's acceptance into the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture’s Robert F. Smith Internship Program.
Digital and Technology Assistant Jane Fiegel received a $1,173 general professional development microgrant from the Digital Preservation Outreach & Education Network. The grant will assist in Jane’s pursuit of a Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) Certificate offered by the Society of American Archivists. Jane will also officially become a librarian this summer when she completes the ALA-accredited Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) program at Louisiana State University with a specialization in Archives and Archival Administration.
Digital Preservation Librarian Vinny Barraza has been accepted into Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians. He will travel to Cambridge, Massachusetts in the summer to participate in the program. In addition, Vinny has been awarded an Association of College and Research Libraries scholarship to attend the 4-day Rare Books & Manuscripts Section Virtual Conference, “Reflection, Reckoning, and Recovery” this summer.
