XULA University Library Archives Assistant Leslie Sam Jr. recently graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi’s Master of Library and Information Science program. The hard work and discipline Leslie utilized to obtain a master's degree while working full-time highlights his willingness and ability to face future challenges with a smile.
“I would like to use my degree to benefit Xavier University of Louisiana by advocating for the library and its resources through outreach, information literacy instruction, and in-person reference assistance. I am looking forward to collaborating with my colleagues and offering a smile to everyone I meet!”
–Leslie Sam Jr.
Leslie believes the world is full of great opportunities and draws his inspiration from “everyday people” who go out into the world each day to complete their tasks with no complaints. Two years ago, he was encouraged to pursue his graduate degree by previous Library Director Tamera Hanken. To be a Xavierite is to be a caring community member who brings out the excellence in others. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Leslie persevered to earn a degree required to become a professional librarian.
The XULA Library community is both proud and thankful Leslie reached this professional milestone.
