Presentation Practice Studio

Do you need to prepare for a conference, a presentation for class, defending your dissertation, or job interviews, graduate school interview?

Need a space to practice a group presentation?

“Check-out” Xavier University Library's Presentation Studio, Room 415B on the 4th floor.

Xavier University of Louisiana’s University Library has created a Presentation Practice Studio to provide students with a space to prepare for presentations. This studio includes a large, touch screen projector, a podium, Chromebooks, and a SWIVL.

Partially funded through student fees, the Presentation Studio is a convenient group space on campus where students across a variety of academic disciplines can work individually or in groups to rehearse timing and slide transition or develop oral presentation skills. As the largest group study room in the Library, the Presentation Studio will accommodate up to 15 persons. 

The Presentation Practice Studio is a convenient group space on campus where students across a variety of academic disciplines can work individually or in groups to rehearse timing and slide transition or develop oral presentation skills which will help them gain confidence, experience, and improve their presentation skills.

Students may reserve the presentation practice studio through our online booking system.

Equipment

The Presentation Studio is equipped with the following:

  • Presenter PC; Windows 10 operating system
  • Additional VGA and audio attachment for using personal laptops
  • Whiteboard
  • Microsoft Office (including PowerPoint) 2016
  • DVD and VHS viewing equipment
  • Large Touch Screen Monitor
  • Speaker's podium
  • iPad with Swivel Technology

The SWIVL is a robotic mount for an IPad, camera, or smartphone that comes with a remote control Marker. It is designed to track and, with the video capture abilities of the other device, record videos of a moving person. It was designed to capture presentations.

Policies


Students may book the Presentation Studio for a period of up to two hours online using their university ID. Consecutive bookings will only be allowed if no other students are waiting.

Xavier University Library also asks that students keep in mind the following guidelines:

  • The Presentation Studio is a student fee sponsored service and may only be reserved by university students for study and scholarship purposes.  No organizations, please.
  • The studio is not soundproof so students are also asked to limit any excessive noise.
  • At least one group member must remain in the room at all times. The studio must not be left unattended.
  • Equipment in the room should only be rearranged by a staff member from the Library.
  • Outside software programs and files should not be downloaded on Library PCs without first consulting the Library staff.
  • Food or drink is not allowed in the Presentation Studio.
