 Tell us what you do.

I am the Learning Spaces Specialist for the University Library.   Learning Spaces is focused on the transformational impact a space can have on learning.  The question of how a space’s potential plays a role in the academic success of our students.  We want our students to take ownership of these spaces.  We want our spaces to convey that they are welcome here; welcome to learn, create and develop into lifelong learners, here with us.   To create a just and humane society our students must be allowed to broaden their sense of self by participating in and with us as we design a flexible learning ecosystem that will serve a generation of learners.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Dedicated, Creative, Supportive

What's the best part about working in a library?

Working with our students. Knowing that what we do everyday will make a big difference in how they learn, exchanging ideas, building relationships with others.

What's your favorite book? What book character would you most like to be?

Growing up my favorite book was a hardcover serial called “Wisdom: The Magazine of Knowledge and Education.”  It was published by LIFE magazine and first appeared in 1959.  It was a fantastic read.

If you could have tea with someone dead or alive, who would it be?

Harriet Tubman, named Araminta Ross by her parents (c. 1826-1913).  She was a black slave who gained her freedom, then changed her name, and protested against slavery.  She was a strong independent, determined woman.

What's something people don't know about you that might surprise them?

I majored in Biology and was accepted into LSU school of Dentistry.  After completing my first year of dental school I discovered I didn’t like it and went on to LSU Baton Rouge to earn a Master’s in Library and Information Science.  My mother was a 30 year academic librarian and my daughter is school librarian for the visually impaired.  I love to ride horses and paint in my spare time.

What's one thing you wish college students knew about using a library?

The time and education that goes into selecting the educational resources that are offered to our students is vast.
